Diving into the future: introducing the RAISE immersive room at the Savona University Campus

An immersive room serving as a gateway between research and society to showcase how AI and Robotics improve our lives
On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Savona University Campus hosted the presentation of the RAISE “CUBE”, an immersive room designed to revolutionize the way scientific research is communicated and to bring citizens, students, and local communities closer to the results generated by the innovation ecosystem.
The initiative, organized by the staff of the Research, Technology Transfer and Third Mission Area of the University of Genoa as part of the activities of RAISE Spoke 5, provided an opportunity for discussion and exchange focused on the potential of immersive technologies applied to science communication.
What is known as the “CUBE” is much more than a technological space: it is an immersive environment designed to transform data, simulations, and complex scientific content into engaging and accessible experiences. It represents a strategic investment for UniGe and the RAISE ecosystem, created with the aim of making research communication increasingly effective, inclusive, and closer to people.
Through multimedia installations and content specifically developed for this environment, visitors will be able to enjoy experiences that facilitate the understanding of complex phenomena through a visual, interactive, and experiential language. This approach is reminiscent of immersive installations found in museums and contemporary art spaces, where the direct involvement of the audience becomes an integral part of the narrative experience.
Within the RAISE framework, the CUBE also represents an important tool for enhancing and disseminating the results of activities funded by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), demonstrating in a concrete and immediately understandable way the impact of research and technology transfer activities on society and local communities.
The morning opened with welcoming remarks by Marco Testa, Rector’s Delegate for the Savona Campus, followed by an address from Davide Giglio, Rector’s Delegate for the RAISE innovation ecosystem, who illustrated the project’s objectives and future perspectives.
Following this, Giorgio Genta of ETT – Dedagroup presented several immersive experiences and installations developed in similar contexts, while Mauro Coccoli, UniGe representative on the RAISE communication board, explored the topic of science communication and the need to develop new forms of language capable of engaging non-academic audiences while maintaining scientific rigor and authority.
The event was organized and moderated by Patrizia Cepollina, Director of the Research, Technology Transfer and Third Mission Area, with the technical and organizational support of Guido Revello and the staff of the Research Enhancement, Technology Transfer and Industry Relations Sector of the University of Genoa.
