Artificial Intelligence and business in LigurIA

The first event in the series promoted by the LigurIA project – an initiative by DIH Liguria aimed at fostering knowledge and the use of Artificial Intelligence within the regional production fabric-will take place on Wednesday, May 21 at 5:00 PM at the Confindustria Genova Auditorium (via S. Vincenzo, 2 – 3rd floor). Among the key speakers will be Cristina Battaglia, Programme Manager of RAISE.
The event is intended as the starting point of a broader journey to explore the transformations introduced by Artificial Intelligence in business processes, decision-making, and strategic planning.
The program will offer an overview of the historical evolution of AI and its main categories – descriptive, predictive, and generative – accompanied by an analysis of their impact on business dynamics and the crucial role that technological adoption plays in strengthening competitiveness. A practical case study will be presented through the experience of Mariotti, a Ligurian company that exemplifies how AI can drive growth even in locally rooted enterprises.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the social changes triggered by the spread of AI, possible future scenarios, and the regulatory challenges currently being addressed by European institutions to govern its use. Professor Alessandro Verri from the University of Genoa will open the technical session with a talk on the origins and evolution of AI, followed by Andrea Teja, Head of GEA-Digital, who will delve into strategies for integrating AI into business models. Professor Giorgio Afferni will then discuss the AI Act and the European legal framework, while Cristina Biasizzo, a technology transfer expert, will offer a philosophical and anthropological perspective on AI’s impact, focusing on transhumanism and intelligent agents.
The program will conclude with the presentation by Cristina Battaglia, who will illustrate RAISE as a model of systemic innovation designed to connect research, industry, and territory through a strategic vision focused on technology transfer and sustainable development. The event will be moderated by Pierluigi Curletto (Federmanager Liguria) and Serena Pagliosa (Genoa Chamber of Commerce).
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required at this link.
Participant check-in will begin at 5:00 PM with a welcome coffee, followed by opening remarks from Umberto Risso, President of Confindustria Genova.
