A step with robots: smart automation for SMEs

The eighth event of the Basic AI & Robotics Applications4SMEs series, part of the program P2 – Basic AI & Robotics Applications4SMEs, coordinated by Spoke 5 of RAISE within the Training Program, will take place on 24 September (5.00 P.M.) at Talent Garden in Genoa under the title “A step with robots: smart automation for the SME shop floor”.

The meeting will address the role of robotics as a strategic driver for the evolution of production and logistics processes in small and medium-sized enterprises. Smart automation will provide concrete solutions to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve work quality. Applications already available on the market will be presented, showcasing scalable and flexible technologies capable of integrating into existing contexts without requiring excessive investments.

The two-hour lecture will guide participants through the main robotic applications for logistics and the shop floor. Concrete use cases will be illustrated, ranging from automated goods handling to smart warehouse management, from collaborative robots for picking and packaging to robotic systems for assembly and production line support.

Participants will discover how robotics can increase productivity, safety, and efficiency, transforming the value chain into a driver of sustainable and competitive growth.

The program will feature contributions from two leading experts:
– Jody Saglia – Founder and CEO of ALTO Robotics, will present the company’s vision and development strategy. After graduating in Mechatronic Engineering in Turin and earning a PhD at King’s College London, he will have built a solid career spanning both research and industry. His trajectory will include the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), where he founded the Rehab Technology Facility, the co-founding of Movendo Technology, which raised over €10 million in Series A funding, and the role of Head of the European Amazon Operations Innovation Lab, where he developed advanced automation technologies for logistics. Author of more than 25 scientific publications and holder of six international patents, he will share insights into collaborative industrial robotics.
– Paolo Guria – Founder and CEO of Unconventional Minds, will present his expertise in robotics and mechatronics. With over twenty years of experience in automation, his career will include six years at IIT, dedicated to the design and development of multi-joint and humanoid robots, and two years at ALTO Robotics, where he developed the NODE Robot, awarded both the Red Dot Award and the IF Award.

The event will provide companies, professionals, and stakeholders with the opportunity to explore the potential of robotics as an enabling factor in the digital transformation of SMEs.
