RAISE Emotion: two performances between art and science

RAISE Emotion emerges from the encounter between creativity and scientific research - a multidisciplinary experiment that transforms RAISE project data into sound, imagery and performance.
For the third consecutive year, RAISE takes part in the Genoa Science Festival, strengthening a collaboration that brings together research, innovation, and public engagement.
The 2025 edition carries special significance: it marks the final phase of the RAISE Innovation Ecosystem, a three-year project that has united universities, research centers, enterprises, and institutions with the goal of transforming scientific knowledge into tangible solutions for the region.
On Wednesday, October 29, at 9:00 p.m., in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio at the Palazzo Ducale, the show “RAISE Emotion” will be held, featuring two performances that explore the relationship between humans, technology, and the environment, translating numbers and algorithms into emotion and reflection.
The first piece, “The Ocean Without Us”, is a creation by the Stellare collective in collaboration with artist Giuseppe La Spada. Through acoustic instruments, analog synthesizers, and fluid visuals, the performance gives voice to data collected by the CNR on pollutants in the Ligurian Sea, tracing the spread of plastics from 2000 to 2050. The result is a shifting sound and visual landscape that grows toward saturation and silence, evoking the image of an ocean untouched by human impact.
The second piece, “Another Beat”, by the La Pozzanghera theatre company, explores digital twins and the future of healthcare. Through movement and dialogue, performers bring to life both the potential and the fears embedded in the digital replication of the human body—data transformed into rhythm, heartbeat, and presence.
With RAISE Emotion, art becomes a complementary language to science, opening new ways to perceive and interpret research. The collaboration among scientists, artists, and performers demonstrates how knowledge can transcend disciplinary boundaries and engage the public in a sensorial and intellectual experience.
This evening represents the most evocative moment of RAISE’s presence at the 2025 Genoa Science Festival—a celebration of the convergence between innovation and culture, between data and imagination.
